20th Century Kifwebe Mask from Baluba Tribe in Bosonge Zaire Africa. It is believed by the Baluba tribe that wearing this mask gives power to ward off disasters and threats. The mask can be worn at ceremonies honoring a dead chief, at the installation of a new chief and for welcoming important visitors as well as dignitaries. Kifwebe was also used in exorcism rituals.
