Do you love playing games? If so, keep reading. My game studio has been running a cute pets / decorating game for over a decade now. The game runs on the web as well as mobile. The "pets" are more doll like rather than having animal features although we do have such options but most players opt for a doll look. We have a small (but not so small) number of players who love the game and look forward to our Monday shop releases. I wear a number of hats, including leading vision for each shop release, and consult with the production team on a variety of details of particular items in each release. Creativity, ideation and brainstorming are key. The team does great with execution, coordinating with our artists and animators and at times with our programmers to get the items done. But they're not so strong in the creative efforts needed to make each shop release stand out in some way or another. We celebrate US culture wherever the opportunity presents itself, and every decor tradition and ever fairytale tribute and classic movie we can think of. It's actually a lot of fun but does require a person with an intense love of culture, style, fashion and history coupled with a particularly creative mindset. Someone with a liberal arts background would be good, but more than that, I'm looking for someone with an outsized passion for the areas I've indicated. I've attached some photos of decorated rooms by our players as well as some of players' pets all styled out for fashion contests the pets can be entered into in the game. I'm looking for someone who can understand and appreciate the sensibilities of our players (who are mostly over 45 year old females in the US) who are inordinately interested in the areas I've described above.
What your contributions would entail:
I would do voice calls while doing share screen using Microsoft Teams (free personal edition is what we use) and point to this and that and brainstorm on this or that item or idea or vision). Ultimately, I'm hoping for you to take over part of my daily and weekly efforts reviewing and vetting shop releases as they evolve and take shape, and then a final vetting for each release). This would involve a few hours a week, and would grow to more hours a week if it looks like you can take over more of my role in vetting and guiding for each shop release). But I would always be involved since the ramp up to full mastery of this area of endeavor is a never ending challenge. If you live close enough, I live in Santa Clara, you can occasionally come over for in person brainstorm sessions. I work out of my home. Time of day and week is quite flexible. It can be evenings, daytime and/or weekends. The important thing is, you are the right fit and can contribute a lot.
We have considerable history of shop releases from which to review (depending on decor and/or cultural theme). We review what has already been done, how to take old concepts and evolve into new approaches. For instance, for the Halloween Season, it's all about ghosts and vampires and witches, pumpkins and such, but we dream up new angles and ideas to keep the releases fresh using the same stereotypes again and again. Our mantra here is: familiar but with a twist. A lot of "what ifs" are brainstormed through. I'm lucky enough to be in a field where they saying is: The more fun you have, the more fun players will have and therefore the greater the success of the shop release.
As for the total number of hours in a month, I can see anywhere between 10 to 25 hours a month. It's not necessary to have worked in the gaming world although that's always a plus. But we're such a niche game, so focused on the expansive space of culture / decor / fashion, that game mechanics play much less of a role. But it's imperative that you love or have loved playing games, currently playing or have played a lot in the past.
