Ever since they put a Dunkin Donuts in the Stop & Shop near Guest Street, I've been going there regularly for an iced coffee before work. At some point last summer, you started showing up in line at the same time as me. You asked me about my tattoo; we chatted cordially. You bought my coffee a few times, even though I protested. No big deal, I thought.
After a while, I started to notice that you'd wait outside the Stop & Shop until I got there, then follow me in and try to initiate conversation. This immediately put me off and I started being short with you.
Things further devolved until, at one point, you'd hide in the aisle near the Luna Bars (which you've observed me purchasing multiple times), wait for me to get my coffee, and then follow me out. Sometimes you'd lurk near the cash registers, and sometimes you'd just burst out of nowhere. Sometimes you'd be outside carrying your coffee and a Stop & Shop bag, making it clear that you'd already been in the store, and follow me back inside and stand around until it was time to follow me back out. The truth was always clear to me: you like to follow me while I get my coffee, often without saying anything. You just wait for me and then trail behind me.
Now, there's no way I'm just paranoid and making this all up, because it happened with way too much regularity. I know you're a strange, dumpy little man who probably hasn't gotten laid in a long time, so I used to be nice..but you were so obviously stalking me. It started to bug me so much that I'd mutter things like "you fucking loser" under my breath when I could sense that you were hot on my trail. I don't think you ever heard me, but...
This morning, you were standing outside. When you saw me coming, you approached the store entrance...and kept walking. You didn't even try to say hi or stand near me. Honestly, I felt a little ignored. What gives?
