Senior Software Engineer - VIDEOEGG - Video Ad Network! (SOMA / south beach)

VideoEgg is looking for a software engineer with experience managing projects, functioning as a team lead, and providing architectural guidance. If you are the right candidate, you are used to owning delivery of applications from start to finish; from idea inception to smooth production execution and everything in between.

On a day-to-day basis, you will need to help drive application and data design, provide reviews, and refactor as needed. You will sometimes be working on well defined projects, at other times on ad-hoc work to meet business need, and at yet others, from a queued set of tickets. You must be comfortable working with minimal direction for extended periods, and at other times with almost daily interaction with management. You should be used to directing yourself and other junior engineers and providing frequent updates regarding the work on your plate.

You will be operating at times as an individual developer, but more often as a team lead coordinating and shaping the work of other team members. You will also be working directly with product management and other business owners to understand what we need to build in our ever changing environment. You will be presenting your work to other engineers, to our peers in other groups, and to management. You must be comfortable with exploring new technologies and languages - our environment is currently primarily PHP, but we aggressively use various unix scripting variants, are introducing java to the mix, and are experimenting with MDX for access to dimensional data.

This IS a startup!

Responsibilities

•	Mentor and coach other members of the software development staff
•	Design and develop distributed systems - both in batch and for real-time responsiveness
•	Work independently, both on new and legacy software systems
•	Lead department code reviews and design sessions
•	Resolve production software issues in conjunction with engineering operations

Requirements

•	8-10 years experience of application development
•	Excellent software engineering discipline (e.g. commenting, frequent checkins, refactoring regularly, etc)
•	Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP and the HTTP protocol
•	Experience developing applications in a Unix/Linux-based environment
•	Good knowledge of object oriented design and design patterns
•	Direct experience developing large scale, web-based applications
•	Knowledge of SQL and relational database structures
•	Familiarity with web services (SOA, REST, SOAP, etc.)
•	Experience with at least one scripting language
•	Excellent problem-solving skills
•	Strong comfort with automated unit testing, and continuous integration
•	Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Points of Any of the Below

•	Experience engineering high-throughput OLTP systems
•	Experience with large scale ETL (millions of records as fast as possible)
•	Familiarity with data warehouses
•	Familiarity with business intelligence tools and/or MDX
•	Active contribution to open source projects

**** Providing a few code samples (1 page or less) will be looked upon favorably. Providing them ahead of any scheduled interview will be even more so. Be prepared for an audition during your interview. It doesn't always happen but you may find yourself working on real code.
