Hey,
I am looking for a ride to burning man on friday evening (after office). I am a 33 year old guy going to burning man for second time. I will be sharing the gas cost and driving (if you want) and can be very helpful with whatever you would be doing there if you need. I am a down to earth responsible person with an artistic mind.

My name is Erin, 26 and living in SF for the last year and a half. I moved here from NYC and work in the Richmond Neighborhood running an after school program for middle school children. I am looking to babysit, would possibly be interested in out of town weekend stays, and I have a full time job so I would only be avaiable M-F for date nights and weekends on a regular basis.

I am flexible and I love working with kids and have great references from reputable owners and leaders of several Bay Area childhood organizations.
I am CPR and First Aid certified via YMCA, BA - and lots of direct experience with newborns and ages K-8!
Email me and I will forward you my contact information. Thanks for taking the time to read about me.

McCain repeatedly has rebuked Obama on Iraq. Campaigning Wednesday in New Mexico, he said Obama "has made it clear he values withdrawal from Iraq above victory in Iraq."

"Most Americans want this thing to end," Elmendorf said, and McCain "still talks of continued engagement." Many Americans, he said, "will vote for who will get us out."

Republican presidential candidate John McCain

pursuing the Iraq war even if it hurts him politically. Recent events in Baghdad threaten to put him still farther out on a limb, however, as the Bush administration works toward a troop withdrawal schedule that is more aggressive than McCain envisions.

1000 years in Iraq, McCains pursues the same SHAME of "FAILED" US Foreign Policies, huh?

He said McCain "has stubbornly focused on maintaining an indefinite U.S presence in Iraq, but events have made his bluster and record increasingly out of touch with reality.

"At this point, Obama looks a little less reckless than he might have a few months ago," said Michael O'Hanlon, a military expert at the Brookings Institution
I'd rather not place her up for adoption at the SPCA for fear that we may not find a new owner in time and she may be put down before she has a chance to find a perfect owner. Shes 3pds insize and sits up approx 6 in sitting and 12in on her hind legs. She is cream / off white in color her name is Ginger which is a good representaion for her natural color. Perfectly health and very good around children and very friendly. She has basic training but practice is important to retain her knowledge. I am asking for $300 relocating fee to ensure she is well cared for. She was originally purchased In Texas by a pamapoo breeder and shiped to me in San francisco at 6 weeks of age.
DUSHANBE/PARIS (Reuters)

Russia's powerful Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in a CNN interview he suspected someone in the United States provoked the Georgia conflict to make the situation more tense and create "a competitive advantage for one of the candidates fighting for the post of U.S. president." He did not elaborate.

Moscow accused the West of heightening tension by a naval build-up in the Black Sea, and said talk of punishing Russia for recognizing the independence of two breakaway Georgian regions was the product of a "sick" and "confused" imagination.

Moscow has defied pressure from the United States and European powers to pull out of Georgia and looked east to its Asian allies, including China, for support at a regional summit.

The crisis flared early this month when Georgian forces tried to retake the separatist province of South Ossetia and Russia launched an overwhelming counter-attack.

Russian forces swept the Georgian army out of the rebel region and are still occupying some areas of Georgia proper. On Tuesday Moscow announced that it was recognizing South Ossetia and another breakaway region, Abkhazia, as independent states.

Yet, Sanctions Loom.

I have been caring for three cats, two that were abandoned (one is blind), and one that appears to be feral (but is very friendly). My problem is I cannot tell if the blind cat has been neutered as he sprays, the feral born cat (cant tell sex) is not spayed/neutered and should be, and I cannot afford shots for any of them. They seem to be relatively happy in the sheltered green space that all of the adjoining yards provides. I noticed a medium sized FAT raccoon eating what was left of their food the other night, and that can't be good.
Help!!!
Anyone with any knowledge and experience with trapping feral cats to have them fixed and given shots so they can be returned here please contact me! I haven't got the slightest idea of how to proceed and am unable to pick any of them up to place them in boxes.

The hope in the McCain camp — with both the eventual pick and the effort to keep buzz alive beforehand — is to curb any uptick in polling that Obama might get from his convention, which wraps up Thursday, and to create momentum heading into the gathering of GOP delegates for McCain next week in St. Paul, Minn.

Looking toward his turn in the spotlight, Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting John McCain sought to siphon attention from Democrat Barack Obama's show in Denver by playing coy about his pick for vice president.

It was a strategy McCain's campaign all but certainly employed to inject McCain into news coverage dominated by Obama.

This was 26 years after we withdrew from Vietnam and McCain still hates Asian people, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, sort of telling if you ask me.

Johnny said this in 2000: "I hated the gooks. I will hate the gooks all my life."

If he wasn't ass raped though, why does he seem to hate Asians as if he had? He must have been personally violated in the worst ways imaginable.

It's been said by those who know that he was given a nickname: the Prince.

It's also been said by other prisoners that McCain had preferential treatment. Perhaps that's why he said he didn't want to be released from his captors .... Mccain said he didn't want to be released until his other fellow prisoners were released as well. Wouldn't he have better served his country as a free soldier rather than a POW? Maybe he liked that preferential treatment he was receiving from his captors - hmmmmmmmmmmm?

This is an exciting yet overwhelming time for parents. Expecting a baby is such a special time, but expecting more then one is even better....or is it? YES.
I am a baby nurse/nanny looking to help parents adjust to their newly expanded family. I am an extra set of hands that can help you with the following:

I provide assistance during the post-delivery recovery period and assist you with all aspects of newborn care including feeding, changing, bathing, infant laundry, sterilizing bottles and helping parents catch up on much-needed rest.

If working nights I typically stay in the babies room and manage their care while you get much needed rest. When the babies wake up, I feed by bottle or bring the baby/ies to Mom for nursing. After feeding, I burp, change and settle the babies back to sleep. (A nursing Mother can hand the babies over immediately after nursing and can get right back to sleep.) If working daytime I provides similar care and also strive to create a nurturing, stimulating environment for your babies during waking hours. While working both day and night, I document your babies activity/sleep/feeding schedule. My key objective is to help transition the babies to a regular feeding and sleeping schedule, which in return makes life a little easier for everyone. I am looking for either a short term "Help Us" situation or a F/T nanny position.

I have over 8 years experience as a baby nurse/postpartum doula. I currently teach childbirth preparation classes and newborn care classes for several Kaiser clinics. I have a long list of references which are given upon request as well as Trustline registered.

I work most Bay Area locations.

Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue & Immune Dysfunction Support Group (San Francisco)

The San Francisco Fibromyalgia (FM) and Chronic Fatigue
Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) Self-Help and Advocacy Group meets on the 2nd Saturday every month, 2-4pm. (Please note: Beginning in Jan., 2008, we meet the 2nd instead of the 1st Sat. of each month) This takes place in rm. B2/3 at the Davies Campus of CPMC (address below). The next meeting will be Saturday, September 13, 2-4pm.

This group is for people with FM,CFIDS, and/or chronic myofascial pain - or
those who think they may have one of these disorders. Friends and family are also welcome. Observers, such as healthcare providers, may attend if they identify themselves as such. Observers are invited to listen and learn, but advice-giving and self-promotion are not acceptable.

Location: Davies Campus of the California Pacific Medical Center, at Castro

St. and Duboce St. Enter the North tower, take the elevator to

level B. Parking in the garage is free. Take a ticket when you enter and

insert it into the slot when you leave. You will not be charged. Sometimes a ticket is not given when entering. If that is the case, you still won't be charged. Public transportation: N, J, 22, 24, 6, 7, 66, 71. Wheelchair accessible.

This is a ***FRAGRANCE FREE*** meeting. And please DO NOT come to the meeting if you are CONTAGIOUS.

Those who come are encouraged to stand, walk around, or whatever they need to do, in order to be comfortable. Bring a sheet if you need to lay down.

Our group purpose is multi-fold. The main reason we meet is for emotional

support, but self-help, education, and political advocacy go hand-in-hand.

Our focus will be on what we CAN do to improve our health and functionality.

Our medical treatment options may be limited, but what we can do about it is NOT. We do this in the following ways:

· by supporting each other, and sharing our experiences, strength, and hope

· by sharing information about doctors, health care providers, and other

resources

· by using political advocacy to increase research into treatments, and

raise awareness about FM

· and by following the CFIDS and FM Self-Help program created by Bruce

Campbell
The meeting adopts part of it's format from the CFIDS/FM Self-Help Support
Group format, based in cognitive behavioral therapy and created by Bruce
Campbell Ph.D. Here is Campbell's description of the program:

FM changes every part of our lives: how much we can do, our ability to work,
our moods, our relationships, our finances, our hopes and dreams, and our
sense of who we are. Adding to the challenge is the fact that it is a
chronic illness, with no cure or standard medical treatment. Living with
this illness can often feel overwhelming and discouraging.

The CFIDS & FM Self-Help program was developed as a response. The program
is based on belief in the value of self-help: we can learn how to feel
better and increase our chances for recovery by taking responsibility for
the parts of our illness over which we have control. It is also based on
belief in the power of groups: we can help ourselves and one another by
meeting to discuss our experience, and share hope and support with one
another.

We believe there is much we can do to limit the effects of symptoms, to

bring predictability, and to improve quality of life. Strategies include:

- finding and accepting the limits imposed by the illness

- pacing ourselves through balancing activity and rest

- reducing the stresses in our lives

- using medications

- nurturing ourselves through positive and pleasurable experiences

- sustaining ourselves through supportive relationships

- maintaining a positive outlook ***

There is always sharing in the first part of the meeting. What we do in the

second part will always change. Possibilities. Workshops; general

discussions; reading; FM awareness day activities, including letter writing

campaigns, and interviews with the media; show and tell (bring in something

that you have found helpful, i.e. massage tools, a special kind of heating

pad); potluck; poetry/literature reading; topic discussion; speaker;

planning meetings with local elected officials.

Please make an effort to be on time to the meeting, as late arrivals can be

disruptive, especially to those who are sharing. It's better that you come

to the meeting late, than not at all, but please make a concerted effort to

come on time.

Jazz Guitar Lessons/ Improvisation Theory-- All Levels (SF/ Noe Valley or Sunset District)

I offer Jazz Guitar and Improvisation lessons.

We will cover all levels of Music Theory & Harmony (in a Jazz and/or Blues context) and apply that knowledge directly to the guitar fingerboard. This includes various scales, patterns, chords, arpeggios and lines. The idea is that we want to improve our instrumental technique (pick control, relaxation of both hands, etc...) but still express ourselves musically.

We will study (and play!!!) standard tunes and common chord progressions, and I will guide you through Improvisation exercises and techniques that will eventually help you develop your own voice/style.

I have a lot of hand-outs, including chord solos (harmonized melody of standard tunes) and comping studies (fingered chord progressions).

I can also specifically help you with ear-training and reading.

I have played with Buddy Collette, Sonny Simmons, Norah Jones, Bruce Dunlap, Adam Levy (Tracy Chapman, Joey Baron, Norah Jones), Reid Anderson ("The Bad Plus"), Kenny Wollesen (Bill Frisell), percussionist Mingo Lewis (from "Santana"), African World Beat group "Zekele Sounds", and the "Broun Fellinis"...

I have taught Guitar Classes, Music Theory, Jazz Composition and Improvisation Workshops at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI and at the Conservatory of Music of Cannes, France.

I'm a very patient and caring teacher who has been playing and performing for over 25 years. I teach at my home studio in Noe Valley (Church & 28th Street), at the Guitar Novatory/Sunset Academy of Music (Irving & 15th Avenue) http://samsf.org/ and at Elizabeth's Music School (38th Ave & Judah)

I charge $50 for a 1-hour lesson. Sliding scale for professional musicians or college students (particularly Music Majors...)
Fall Session

-Versatility and Multiples in Screen Printing-
Instructor: Adam Friedman
12 Sessions/ Tuesdays, September 16-December 2
Time: 7:30-10:30pm
Location: Studios 1 and 2
Number: PR1002
Tuition: $530 (includes a $50 lab fee)

This course is designed to demonstrate the versatility of the screenprinting process. Through interactive demonstrations, students will learn the technical fundamentals and options of silkscreen printmaking. The first half of the class will focus on building a technical understanding of the medium by creating multi-colored editions on paper. Students will be taught how to use the screen as a tool for drawing, stencil making, and photographic (bitmap) rendering. The second half of the course will demonstrate how screenprinting can be used on a wide variety of surfaces, such as fabric, wood panels, canvas, etc. Students will have the opportunity to approach the medium from a tight and registered design perspective, or use the screen with painterly and experimental freedom. This class can accommodate students with various levels of experience.

Adam Friedman is currently an artist in residence at Root Division, where he works and teaches. Adam creates landscapes on panels by using collage and screen printing in a non traditional, painterly fashion. Adam's work is included in a variety of private collections and has shown extensively across the United States, with exhibitions in California, Oregon, Nevada, and Massachusetts. He completed his MFA at SFAI in 2008.
Adult Continuing Education
Fall Session
-Photogravure-
Instructor: Amanda Boehm
12 Sessions/ Saturdays, September 20–December 13
Time: 1-4pm
Location: Studio 20A
Number: PR1007
Tuition: $530 (includes a $50 lab fee)

In this course students will learn the complex process of photogravure, one of the first methods of reproducing photographic material, and discuss its relevance in today’s digital age. Beginning in the darkroom and ending in the printmaking studios, students’ instruction will span two disciplines and as a result will transform their images from the realm of photography into that of copper plate printmaking. Once the process reaches its final stages in printmaking students will be encouraged to employ various other techniques such as aquatint, spit bite, drypoint, and etching along with the photographic image. This highly sensitive method of image making lends itself to a wide variety of experimentation and uncanny results that cannot be reproduced in any other medium. No experience in photography or printmaking is required only dedication and the ability to pay attention to the smallest of every detail.

Amanda Boehm-Garcia is a printmaker residing in Daly City California. She received her B.F.A degree from Cameron University in Oklahoma and her M.F.A degree from the San Francisco Art Institute. Boehm-Garcia has recently shown her photogravure work in Introductions 2007 at Root Division Gallery, San Francisco, received a solo show at Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery in Oklahoma City, as well as participating in various national and international juried exhibitions. Boehm-Garcia’s work is an exploration into the illusion of the body as completely able evidenced by the disabled body. It is the purpose of her work to investigate the dependency that occurs as a result of the differently-able body in a manner that embraces and removes this particular aspect of the disabled experience from the realm of the “Other” and into a shared understanding of human experience.
Instructor: Isabelle Massu
12 Sessions/ Saturdays, September 22–December 13
Time: 10am-1pm
Location: 16C
Number: PH1014
Tuition: $530(includes a $50 lab fee)

Today, images derived from the private realm of the family album have entered the public sphere of the Internet database. This class will address the cultural and practical significance of this event. Through exercises using Photoshop CS3 for collage (and other advanced features), and Bridge CS3 for organizing and labeling images with keywords, students will explore and intervene in popular image databanks (such as hotornot, webshots, or flickr) and consider the hierarchical structures by which the images are arranged. The class will analyze and interpret these databanks by addressing such questions: What ideology do keywords and categories reinforce? How do they offer a sense of comfort by creating a visual concept of the world? How do they restrain and exclude different points of view? The class will study the work of various artists that appropriate images in order to question mainstream modes of representation. For the latter part of the class students will create a collective image-arrangement.

Isabelle Massu is a new media artist/educator who has lived for the past 20 years between San Francisco and France. She was part of the "cyberfeminist" movement in Europe in the 1990’s and has since then continued to work around issues of women's representation and, more recently, issues of class. She has taught and collaborated for the past fifteen years with collectives in Marseille, Brussels, Algiers, Belgrade, and Paris and has recently co-curated an installation with the Arab Image Foundation in Beirut. She has taught at SFAI since 2007 and is currently working on a project with the National Prehistory Museum in France concerning notions of representation and imagination in archaeology.

"Jerry Gerber is a composer of the first order who, fortunately for us is willing to take on students. I have had the good fortune to study with Jerry for two years. The lessons have been weekly and are 'one on one.' In the beginning, I had a burning desire to write music but only a limited knowledge of music theory. During the prior two years we have covered traditional 4 part harmony, counterpoint, and modern harmony. The lessons have included ear training with instruction in music notation software. With the aid of Jerry's infinite patience and encouragement, I have written several chorals, multiple two part inventions and synthetic scale pieces. I have also composed a 12 tone piece and 1 and 1/2 fugues (number 2 is a work in progress). Jerry Gerber is an authority on electronic music. With his input and assistance, I have been able to develop a small studio of my own. For those interested in music composition, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and all things related to music, Jerry is recommended without reservation."

"Jerry Gerber possesses that rare combination of technical and musical knowledge together with the ability to organize and communicate it clearly to the student. I sought Jerry out because I wanted to improve my understanding of the challenges of orchestration for virtual instruments. He not only helped me to more clearly understand and how to get the best out of these remarkable but complex tools, he also was able to draw on his considerable background in acoustic composition to help me expand my understanding of traditional orchestration and form, both areas in which I have had a life long interest. Jerry is a man who definitely enjoys observing the progress his students make and will certainly expand your musical and technical horizons. Whether your interests involve principles of MIDI, composition, orchestration, analysis, notation or a combination of these disciplines, Jerry Gerber will definitely help you to become a more well rounded musician."

Bear is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old pit bull. He was pulled from the SF shelter before he was euthanized and is now in foster care waiting for his forever home. Luck guy.

He is fixed, up to date on all his shots. He is available to Bay Area residents or anywhere beyond. Rocket Dog Rescue asks for a $175 adoption fee.

He is all white, about 65 lbs., has a lanky build and is partially deaf in one ear. His foster mom hasn't noticed any effect on his attentiveness.

He LOVES to swim and makes pig-like noises. Bear gets a long with other dogs, rides in the car very well, has a good amount of energy, and really loves his people. He is a big, strong, headstrong dog who needs a firm, patient, responsible owner who is willing to give him proper exercise, mental stimulation, and obedience training.

Bear loves to go for jogs, play fetch and to hang out with his person. Despite his tough appearance, he is really a big baby underneath and is happiest snuggling on the couch.

Send an email for more information or go to the Rocket Dog Website (use google.. supposedly i'm not supposed to put links in here).

Hi, I'm Nick, I live in lower haight and am 26. I've been playing guitar and studying theory for 16 years and have been in numerous touring bands. Currently I'm playing with members of the swingin utters and me first and the gimme gimme's, we opened for the pogues last year at the fillmore 2 nights, but would like to steer away from punk and get back into some rootsy southern music. The likes of band of horses, the black keys, my morning jacket, the band, and stuff like that. I love vocal harmonies and would love to have a good lead singer to support. I've studied voice for the last 6 years.

I'm looking for a band that practices at least once a week and really understands the fundamentals of a good rhythm section. I would love to start traveling once we have a strong set, do weekend trips to washington or oregon or down south. you can hear some of my solo stuff at myspace.com/thelasthurrahmusic

Gear:
Amp: Fender Deluxe
Guitar: triple singe coil fender strat starburst and a tele (also have a good acoustic electric)
pedels: EQ, wah (cry baby), digital delay, and tremolo

Sounds like: David Gilmour, John Frisciante, and a little Jimmy page (only when I try to squeeze too many notes into a riff)

420 and booze friendly (in moderation of course)

New Mom Looking to Care for Infant with Her Own (hayes valley)

Hi,

My son Isaiah (a newborn) and I are going to be staying home for about six months, and I am looking to find a family who needs care for an infant of about the same age and who is looking to have childcare through someone who they like and who shares their parenting values.

My son is just over a month old now, and I am looking to begin caring for another baby beginning in mid-October when he'll be three months old, though I am open to adjusting the time frame. All of the hours and details can be discussed and worked out, but I am most interested in caring for your baby Tuesday-Friday for more or less the full day, ending at the latest by around 7 in the evening. I am going to charge $15/hr.

I am practicing "attachment parenting" with Isaiah, which is a heavy way of saying that we're very close, and that I think that responding intimately and sensitively to a baby makes everyone happier. I am dedicated to breastfeeding on demand (so I'm very respectful if you want me to use your pumped milk on your baby's schedule) , not letting babies cry it out if something's wrong, baby wearing, and deep, constant engagement and affection.

I would be inclined to be with the kids in my apartment, which is central and near many parks and such, but I could easily come to your house if you'd prefer ( and if you live near public transit, as I'm car-free).

I would love to meet with you to find out whether we're a good match. If you want to work with me, I think we should spend a day or two together first to get a feel for each other and the kids. If you have any questions about me and Isaiah, I'll be happy to answer them.

The quick bio is:I grew up in New Orleans, but have lived in California with my husband for seven years now. I went to UCSC and studied politics and literature, along with basking in the surf and redwoods. I've been in San Francisco for 3 years, and am deeply in love with the city. I have worked for 8 years in natural health, and was starting graduate school last year, but that's on hold for a year or two now. In the spring, we're packing the family up to South America for a year's adventure.

Thanks! I hope to hear from you soon.

Are You Passionate About Music, Hiking, Biking, Good Conversation? (mission district)

Are you into any or all of these activities and looking for others to do the same? More importantly, do you like to converse intellectually on what you're passionate about?

I'm a 31-yr-old Mission-district-dwelling cook/caterer, business consultant, music critic/appreciator, outdoor adventure seeker, amateur guitarist and wannabe athlete seeking like-minded people to hang out with in and around San Francisco. I'm not seeking romantic relationships, as I have a long-term girlfriend.

Although I understand many people have familial, work, or other responsibilities that can make socializing difficult, I'm fortunate at the moment to have my own businesses and free time to make meeting people and developing friendships a high priority. If this is a high priority for you as well, let's meet and chat. I also love great cocktails and dive bars alike, and am an avid skier and pool/billiards player.

Ideally you live in San Francisco as well, so commuting/logistical issues are minimized, allowing us to potentially hang out often if we'd like if we both gel. I often like to plan restaurant/bar, music, and outdoor activity outings, but I also love someone else to take the initiative and do some planning as well. Most importantly, no flaking - if you find it difficult to be on time and/or make decisions and hold commitments, no need to reply :). I see friendships as relationships that deserve time and attention, not conveniences for filling unused time.

In my experience meeting other folks, we'll probably be a better fit if you are seriously into one of the activities/subjects I mentioned. If you're interested in any/all of them but haven't yet pursued, you may find more suitable folks to get started with on one of the many existing Yahoo-based local groups (SF Outside, 20s 30s Socials, Skipals, etc.). Also, if you prefer to socialize in large groups, you may want to look elsewhere. I prefer the genuine interactions that seem to arise from smaller groups of 2-3 people.

Lastly, it'd help if you're at least in your mid-20s, or at least a very mature early-20s. If you have a non-stop party mindset, or are just getting acquainted with San Francisco for the first time, while I'd be happy to give you some recommendations, I'm seeking people closer to my current level of maturity and state of mind.

Email me!

When you email me, please add my address to the Contacts folder or file in your email program - this will assure that you receive my replies promptly.

I look forward to meeting you!
