Position Summary:
The Senior Optical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, simulation, and development of micro-optical device based on LC (liquid crystal) technology to be used in the fiber optical telecommunication industry. This position is in the Optical R&D team and requires strong experience in the development of optical devices based on LC technology, including knowledge of optical design, LC microstructures, layout design, and process design and development.
Responsibilities:
· Design and develop new optical components and suppliers for new platform devices
· Build new prototype devices based on design specifications
· Resolve and troubleshoot optical-related issues during the whole product development cycle
· Support development of fiber optic modules
· IQC of optical materials
· Modify the optical designs to reduce the costs of the optical devices
· Work closely with different groups (mechanical, PCBA, process and reliability), and provide technical support on optical issues
· Partner with PLMs and manufacturing to understand product specs and resolve issues for new customers
· Participate in product development phase to ensure DFM (design for manufacturability)
Qualifications:
· BS Degree in Optics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering + 2 years of experience with telecom optical devices are required. Advance degree is preferred.
·Lab experience with optical characterization techniques, assembly, alignment & calibration is required
· Basic skills in fiber-optic packaging process, such as fiber splicing and epoxy applications
· Familiarity with Telcordia Tests
· Good communication skills and the ability to interface with different groups are required.
· Familiarity with optical device processes and reliability requirements for passive and active optical components is preferred.
