so i'm in a lousy mood today. deep, dark, enduring funk that could easily slide into full scale depression if i don't shake it off. so after trying and failing to just get over it, i post a missed connection asking if anyone out there wants to send a little love my way.

TWENTY FIVE people have responded so far. with everything from jokes to links to greeting cards. i heard a hilarious if seriously twisted story about monkeys. i watched the rap version of star wars. and just a few minutes ago, i got this:

"no matter how down you are, you are never, ever alone. promise."

so go ahead and bitch about how awful this city is. curse the yuppies and the hippies and the marina-ites and the mission hipsters. rant away about burning man, club promoters, suv drivers, taggers, dot commers, natives and imports. say all you like about the decline of this city. i know better.

somewhere out there in that mass of humanity are 25 people who took time out of their lives to send a little solace to a complete stranger. for absolutely no good reason and strictly out of the goodness of their hearts. and that's just out of the tiny little subset of san franciscians who happen to be on the internet, reading craigslist today. it's a rich, complex, surprising and challenging world we live in and it is infinitely richer for the presence of people like you.

she was right. i'm not alone. and neither are you.
