MC - the definition

Well, it was once rumoured to represent, "Missed Connections," a forum where people could pine after others they didn't speak to as a result of timidity, observance of social rules, or other lack of appropriate circumstances. MC was also once used to help people find others with whom they'd lost contact. However, these things are all now passe - one thing that hipsters and investment banking/corporate types can finally agree upon.

MC now stands for "emcee" or "mic check," as in its function is more of a broadcast venue for self-styled poets, ramblers, and soapbox statesmen. Hence, the discussions we see on the board. This, coincidentally, is serving the function of the forum groups, which have now evolved into a love fest among their own tight knit communities, since this still allows for some modicum of anonymity.

Please note that there are some stubborn individuals who persist in using MC for its old function. This will soon cease, much as the use of neck massagers are no longer used for electrical intramuscular stimulation.
